IntroductionThe bibliography provides the equivalent of four issues annually. These however are regrouped into two instalments. Each instalment provides a list of books and articles. Each also includes a list of book reviews, an index of names, and a list of anonymous publications indexed. The aim of the bibliography is to list philosophical literature as such; the adjective is understood rather strictly, with the result that scientific disciplines which are more or less related to philosophy, and even the auxiliary sciences of philosophy and of the history of philosophy, are not treated of in their own right; the increasing volume of this literature, plus the availability of specialized bibliographical guides to it, preclude the possibility of incorporating it into the bibliography. Only publications relating to the methods or the philosophy of these sciences, together with publications of a general nature relative to the objects treated of by these disciplines, are referred to; these will be found in the section of the bibliography devoted to the corresponding branch of philosophy. This rule applies particularly to the following disciplines: symbolic logic, linguistics, psychology, aesthetics and theology. In principle, the bibliography is confined to philosophical literature published in the following languages: Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Latin, Portuguese, Spanish and Catalan. No claim is made to give an exhaustive list of works published in other languages. All articles published in the periodicals listed in the first issue of every year (Periodicals indexed) figure in the bibliography. Philosophical articles appearing in other reviews will also be mentioned, if they come to our attention. We equally guarantee the careful study of contributions appearing in group works, the list of which is reproduced in each instalment.
